PENTIMENTI’s booth at The Armory Show will feature Namwon Choi’s newest paintings that operate between image, object, and memory. These paintings transform familiar visual languages into deeply personal examinations of longing, and connection. More exactly, Choi combines photorealist techniques with hard-edge abstraction to show how emotional depth and precise technique can coexist in a painting.
How far would you travel to be with someone you love? In Namwon Choi’s work, the journey itself becomes a painted homage to distance, devotion, and longing. Along the road, time unfolds slowly through cycles of patience, endurance, and anticipation. Choi’s paintings reveal physical and emotional pathways toward the people and places the heart deeply desires.

Namwon Choi (b. 1976, Seoul, South Korea) received her BFA and MFA in Oriental Painting from Hongik University in Seoul, Korea and an MFA in Drawing and Painting from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. She has exhibited at institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Atlanta, GA; Moss Arts Center, The Mattatuck Museum, Waterbury, CT; Blacksburg, VA; the Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences, Macon, GA; Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta, GA; the Korean Cultural Center in Washington, D.C.; Gallery Korea at the Korean Cultural Center of New York, NY; the Wiregrass Museum of Art, Dothan, AL; the Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles, CA; and The Low Museum, Atlanta, GA.
Choi has participated in numerous residencies and received several prestigious awards, including the MOCA GA Working Artist Project, Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, Atlanta, GA; MASS MoCA Residency, North Adams, MA; (VCCA) Fellowship, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Amherst, VA; River Fellow Summer Resident Artist Program at Columbus State University, Columbus, GA; and the Creative Community Housing Project Artist-in- Residence at The Creative Project, Atlanta, GA; Finalist, 1858 Prize Contemporary Southern Art Awards, Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC.
