Pentimenti Announces an Online Solo Exhibition with Jackie Milad, Featured on Artsy.
Pentimenti is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Jackie Milad, titled Inter Tidel. This presentation features an intimate selection of new mixed media works on canvas and paper.
Jackie Milad’s practice brings together vibrant color, collage, and layered materials to examine the convergence of personal history and ancient Egyptian visual culture. Drawing from her Honduran and Egyptian heritage, she creates richly textured compositions that fuse distinct cultural narratives into a cohesive visual language.
“For me, collage is a motivating philosophy, and my accumulative process is a form of repatriation; it’s a way to take ownership of my unique ancestral story without the movement of actual antiquities.” - Jackie Milad.
Her mixed media works on canvas are meticulously constructed through processes of collage and mark-making, incorporating symbolic references, fragments of imagery, and abstract forms. These layered surfaces reflect the complexity of dual heritage, where histories overlap and identities are continually shaped through lived experience. These works were created during the artist’s residency at Surf Point Foundation in Maine, a period that offered space for reflection, experimentation, and deep engagement with material process.
Milad’s works on paper extend this exploration through a more intimate and tactile approach. Referencing the Gulf of Fonseca, where her maternal lineage originates, a region bordered by El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua, these works carry a strong sense of geographic and personal history.
Across both bodies of work, Milad engages an accumulative process that mirrors the act of reclaiming and reassembling cultural narratives. The resulting works form a dynamic visual language that is at once deeply personal and broadly resonant.
