Derrick Velasquez has been awarded the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant 2017. This grant, awarded to a group of 25 artists will each receive $25,000 in unrestricted funds. Established by the foundation’s namesake in 1993, the grants are awarded annually to under-recognized artists working in the United States through a nomination and subsequent jury vote.
