How far would you travel to be with someone you love? In Namwon Choi’s work, the journey itself becomes a painted homage to distance, devotion, and longing. Along the road, time unfolds slowly through cycles of patience, endurance, and anticipation. Choi’s paintings reveal physical and emotional pathways toward the people and places the heart deeply desires.
These hand-painted works are executed on unconventional wooden panels result in hyper-pigmented blue surfaces that blur the boundary between painting and sculpture. Informed by photographs the artist captures while driving, these paintings transform fleeting moments on the highway into deeply personal landscapes. Choi seamlessly merges her gouache and acrylic painting technique across two-dimensional shaped surfaces inspired by familiar signage and roadside markers, such as stop signs and barricades.
PENTIMENTI will be exhibiting in the Solo Section, Booth 435.
