Pentimenti is delighted to return to the highly anticipated Untitled Art at Ocean Drive and 12th Street, Miami Beach, FL this December. As one of the premier contemporary art fairs, Untitled Art will feature over 170 exhibitors in its 2024 edition, marking the largest presentation to date.
Untitled Art remains dedicated to curatorial-led exhibitions and programs, with this year’s 13th edition centered around the theme "East Meets West". This focus aims to highlight underrepresented artists and communities in the contemporary art scene, sparking discussions on the contrasts and connections with Western practices. By exploring the concept of "East Meets West" from a global perspective, the fair seeks to challenge and expand traditional boundaries.
Guest curators Kathy Huang and Jungmin Cho, both recognized for their work in institutions supporting Asians and the Asian diaspora, led the curation and selected the galleries.
JACOB FEIGE
Jacob Feige’s 2D and 3D paintings begin with abstract geometric drawings that feel familiar yet impersonal—a simulacrum of portraiture, where hints of emotion, identity, and age are deliberately subdued. Most works pair figures, suggesting relationships without explicit connection, as the figures hover between figuration and abstraction.
Jacob Feige received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2005. His work was on view at David Richard Gallery, New York, NY; Lombard Freid Projects, New York, NY; Movement, Worcester, UK; Wasserman Projects, Detroit, MI; Chambers Fine Art, Beijing, China; Watergate Gallery, Seoul, South Korea; among other venues. In 2024, he was an artist-in-residence at Alfred University Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf, Germany, and in 2018 at the Princeton Cyprus Expedition, Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus. He was awarded a New Jersey Council on the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship in 2022. His work was featured in Artforum, Frieze, The New Yorker, Art in America, and Title Magazine, among others.
SOYEON SHIN
Soyeon Shin’s paintings invite viewers into her unique perspective on everyday life, transforming often-overlooked details into unconventional landscapes. Through vibrant colors in her acrylic-on-canvas works, she merges industrial architecture with nature, capturing the essence of metropolitan life.
Soyeon Shin received her MFA in sculpture from Pratt Institute and her BFA in sculpture from Seoul National University. Her work was exhibited at Mrs. Gallery, Maspeth, NY; Hashimoto Contemporary, New York, NY; Nino Mier Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; New York Art Residency and Studios (NARS) Foundation, Brooklyn, NY; Steuben South Gallery, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY; and more. Her work was published in Hyperallergic, Booooooom, New American Paintings, and The Brooklyn Rail, among others.
DERRICK VELASQUEZ
Derrick Velasquez's "Untitled" series is a blend of marine vinyl strips layered over wood. Hundreds of layers result in a transformative effect that embraces the contour of the wood. The curling vinyl ends create a balanced interplay of weight and lightness, with colors deliberately arranged to reflect the artist's vision. Each layer resembles a brushstroke, expressing diverse emotions through Derrick's vibrant palette.
Derrick Velasquez received his BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his MFA from Ohio State University. Velasquez has exhibited his works at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, Denver, CO; the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Boulder, CO; Black Cube Nomadic Art Museum, Denver, CO; Herron School of Art and Design, Indianapolis, IN; Drexel University, Pearlstein Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Center for Visual Art, Denver, CO; VAC University of Colorado, Boulder, CO; RedLine Contemporary Art Center, Denver, CO; FOCA Biennial, New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe, NM; Arvada Center for the Arts, Arvada, CO; and more. He has been awarded by MacDowell Colony Fellow 2019; MassMoCA Assets for Artist Residency 2018 - 2019; Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant 2017; Black Cube Nomadic Art Museum Artist Fellow 2015; Colorado Creative Industries Career Advancement Award 2015; and more.
